PRESS RELEASE – The temporary shutdown has now ended, and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) has secured full funding for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) throughout the state. This means WIC services for eligible families in communities like Macon County Public Health are now fully resumed.

Families are strongly encouraged to:

• Continue using your food benefits, as approved items and vouchers are available.
• Keep your clinic appointments — prenatal, postpartum, infant and child checks are all part of the WIC service mix.
• Participate in virtual services, if offered, so you don’t miss out on nutrition education, support and check-ins.

WIC in North Carolina serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women, postpartum women, infants and children up to age five.  Services include nutrition education, supplemental food vouchers, breastfeeding support and health referrals.
